“Bio-degradable plastic is the need of the hour as the usage of other plastic has been found to be poisonous. The state government is also planning to ban the thin plastic which is not bio-degradable”, said state environment minister Krishna J Palemar on Wednesday August 5.

He was speaking in a programme at the press club organized by Everest Plastics Industries, Kulshekar, as part of its launch of ‘D2W-oxo-biodegradable plastic’. Palemar said that the awareness about the problems of plastic should start from schools and the usage of degradable plastic should also be encouraged.

Palemar handed over the certificate of registration to Cynthia Fernandes, proprietor of EverestPlasticsIndustries. Errol gave a brief introduction of the product. He said that the plastic D2W was degradable after usage and could be disposed in a landfill leaving no harmful residue.
He added that the company had introduced this product after seeing the problems caused by plastic waste. Agnel Rodrigues from Ad-venture Media conducted the programme.

indian: The record attempt by Hindustani vocalist Prasanna Madhav Gudi of Dharwad, who presented the longest concert lasting for 26 hours and 12 minutes in December 2008, has been considered as a record by the Guinness World Records Limited.
Mr. Prasanna Gudi, son of Hindustani vocalist Mahdav Gudi, told presspersons here on Thursday that he had received the certificate for the feat he completed on December 29, 2008.
An ecstatic Mr. Prasanna displayed the certificate proudly, accompanied by his family members and attributed his achievement to hard work and constant support by family members and well-wishers.
It might be recalled that on December 28, 2008, nonagenarian vocalist Gangubai Hangal had inaugurated the record attempt by Mr. Prasanna, which he had begun with a composition in Todi raga.
Mr. Prasanna had concluded his “swara mahayaag” with a composition Bhairavi raga on December 29, with the audience giving a standing ovation for his feat. As many as 12 artistes accompanied Mr. Prasanna in his attempt. In between the Todi and Bhairavi ragas, Mr. Prasanna sang compositions in various ragas including Jeevanpuri, Goudasarang, Yaman, Kalyani and Multani. Apart from these, there were songs in Kannada and Hindi, Marathi abhangs and Dasara Pada. In accordance with the rules, Mr. Prasanna took a 15-minute break every three hours.
